We enjoyed Marseille despite the nightmare of navigating and the expense of parking in a big city when you don’t know where things are or which way to go. The city is grimy, seething and sometimes creepy yet still an exciting and interesting place to visit. There was lots of people everywhere which is probably normal but there was a big football match on that night and lots of white and blue everywhere.
We took a ride on the petite train up to the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde. It was a steep 20 minute ride up a hill where the views of the city of Marseille were stunning.
On Sunday morning we went to Palais de Longchamp which was built in the 1800’s for the purpose of disguising a water tower. Pretty fancy disguise! We chose the Palais because it had the jardins as well as two museums but bad luck for us, both museums were closed for renovation work.
