The Parc was a good day for the kids. There was animals to look at and also rides the kids could go on which was all included in the admission. We practised our French in the canteen when we were ordering lunch. We didn’t recognise some of the things on the menu so we stayed with what we knew. I still don’t know what “entrecote” is.
The swimming pool was inviting and there was a small water slide which Samuel enjoyed. I thought the water would’ve been too cold but the kids were happy with it.
After we left Vitteaux, we drove to Dijon which is a large city (population 237000). Found a hotel easily. It was a Lonely Planet suggestion. Decided to stay in Dijon for two nights. There was lots to do and look at. Dijon is gorgeous.
We spent an enjoyable Monday following the tourist walk to some of the major sites. The walk is called “The Owl’s Trail” and they have these little gold owl markers in the footpath to mark the trail. Owl No. 9 is actually an owl carved into the side of a building and is meant to be a good luck charm for passersby who rub it with their left hand (the hand closest to the heart). There’s a booklet available which describes a brief history of all the sights. Best of all it’s in English. The walk takes about an hour but at our pace it was quite a lot longer. It’s a beautiful city. The Musee des Beaux Arts was one of the museums we visited and it had the most amazing paintings and sculptures and was also free to go in (bonus). I love the museums but my kids have minimal interest in anything historic.
